Boarding schools in Thailand and Asia
Only a handful of International schools in Thailand have boarding facilities. Although there are more than 100 schools catering to foreign students, most are located in Bangkok city centre with limited space. There are however, several boarding schools in Thailand that offer international students full boarding facilities and supervision while studying a world class curriculum.
The only boarding school offering the internationally acclaimed International Baccalaureate in Thailand is the Prem Tinsulanonda International School in Chiang Mai. It is located on a beautiful campus, 25kms north of the city with comfortable apartment styled lodgings and a full range of facilities for recreation, learning and personal development of the students.
Other international boarding schools in Thailand include, the British International School in Phuket, American Pacific International School in Chiang Mai, Bangkok Christian International School, Bangkok Grace International School, Bromsgrove International School, Garden International School, Harrow International School, Kevalee International School, Korean International School of Bangkok, Rasami International School, The Regent’s School, Saint John Mary International School, Siam International School and St Stephen’s International School. These offer a variety of education programs under both the British and American education systems.
The Prem Center in Chiang Mai, is one of the most popular, attracting more than 470 students from 37 nationalities, coming from homes as far away as Europe, Bali and even the United States. Parents who have been based in Asia have found this school offers an excellent, good valued education, and Chiang Mai a suitable environment for their children’s up-bringing. Few international schools anywhere in the world offer an IB programme with boarding facilities at such affordable fees.
As far as campuses and environments go, The Prem Center offers one of the most comfortable and inspiring boarding schools in Thailand, with nicely furnished, quiet low-rise apartments with twin (sharing) rooms complete with en-suites. University graduates (interns) and staff living mostly on campus offer boarding students academic support and counselling. Facilities include; sporting fields, courts and a running track, large swimming pool, golfing and tennis academies on-site, international cricket pitch, art center, indoor gymnasium and comfortable library.
The city itself is popular with expats who form a large community of foreigners, attracted by the easy-going pace, affordable cost of living and very satisfactory services and facilities. Some students are weekly boarders, and all students get to benefit from and enjoy the city’s recreational and cultural characteristics. Boarding students participate in regular programs that include trips in the mountainous Northern Thailand interior, visiting hill tribe villages, elephant camps, adventure pursuits, national parks and activity venues.
Chiang Mai is quite easily accessible from Southeast Asia and beyond with an international airport that has direct flights to Taipei, Seoul, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Kunming, as well as several flights an hour to the regional hub, Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport, and daily flights to Phuket and Samui.
