The boarding program is well supervised, structured, challenging and fun. There are a healthy variety of activities that cater to all students and allow them to develop unique life skills that will continue to assist them throughout their chosen careers.

The 14 professional boarding staff are committed to an environment where every student feels safe, secure, healthy, enlightened, cared for and listened too.

Students are housed in modern and comfortable two bedroom apartments with ensuite bathrooms.

Wireless internet is available throughout the boarding facility.

A secure, safe environment is provided by 14 full time boarding staff (living in the same residential clusters as students) with the assistance of full time nursing and security staff.

Prior to the arrival of your child all relevant medical information, which will assist us in providing the best possible care for your child, must be completed on the Medical Information Form and handed in to the Admission Office with the Application Form. This information is confidential and stored in the Medical Center.

The school has negotiated a comprehensive medical insurance package with Bupa Blue Cross, a global health insurance company. It is compulsory for all boarding students to join this Medical Scheme which costs 9,000 baht per annum and is included in boarding school fees.

PTIS has a fully equipped Medical Center, which is staffed from 8.00am to 5.00pm. Our qualified nursing staff live on campus and are on call 24 hours. If students wish to attend the Medical Center during school hours they need to gain permission from a teacher and then sign out with the Senior School Secretary. If they have a medical issue outside of school hours they need to gain permission from the boarding staff on duty. In some situations, the Nurse is called by the boarding staff to attend the student in their room. In addition, the Nurse visits the boarding cluster each evening at 8.30 PM.

On occasion our students do need to make a hospital visit. When this occurs, a member of staff will generally accompany the student to their appointment. Parents are notified by the Nursing staff or a Senior member of the boarding staff, usually by email. If the hospital visit is of an urgent nature, parents will be contacted immediately. Any student who is admitted to hospital for an overnight stay is accompanied by a boarding staff member.

The PTIS International School has thirteen security guards who work in shifts for 24 hours a day. Students will not be allowed to leave the premises unless they are with a staff member, parent or Guardian. The only exception to this is that small groups of students are allowed, with permission, to visit the local village. During the night the guards are located in the boarding house courtyards from 10.00 PM till 6.00 AM.

All visitors to PTIS must register at the front gate. You will be required to provide photo identification at this time. You will then be issued with a Visitors Pass.

To assist in this procedure it is advised that all parents have their photo taken for a parent pass. This can be done in the admissions office. This will then allow you through the gate in a more expeditious manner.

Please apply for a non-immigrant visa - coded ‘ED’ (valid initially for 90 days) at the Thai Consulate Office in your child’s country.

To do this you will need a Letter of Intent from the PTIS International School confirming enrolment. This letter will be sent once your child has been accepted and enrolled at PTIS.

All boarding students must make their travel arrangements so that they are at school until the last day of term. The school day ends at 3.00pm. This means that the earliest flight that students should be catching is around 5.00pm.

Students are required to return on the day prior to term starting. This allows them enough time to settle back in to their rooms, unpack and be well rested and ready for classes the following day.

If your son/daughter is required to leave early or return late, please notify the Director of Boarding or the Boarding Secretary to ensure that the classroom teachers and Principals are aware of this.

Prior to arrival, contact the Director of Boarding or the boarding secretary with your flight number and arrival date and time for airport pickup.

Weekend Activities

Experiential Education Program The Experiential Education Program operates every Saturday morning from 9.30 am to 12.00 pm. This program is compulsory for all full time Junior (Grade 6 - 7) and Middle Year (Grade 8 - 10) boarders and optional for Seniors (Grade 11 - 12).

This program may involve Taekwondo, yoga, archery, fitness, horse riding, mini-golf, archery, jewellery making courses, cooking, soccer, basketball or outdoor pursuits.

Students will be asked to make a selection for the whole term or possibly longer.

Weekly boarders or even day students may wish to make a similar commitment but they would have to pay for the sessions.

Also in the Saturday 10.30 to 12.15 pm time slot there will be an additional study session for senior students (Grade 11 - 12) in their apartments. This is generally supervised by academic staff.

Weekend leave usually commences from after lunch on Saturday afternoon (1.00 pm) and will finish by 6.00 pm on Sunday when all weekly boarders are due back.

Both the Experiential Education Program and senior extra study session will be run by the Teachers on Duty (TOD), The Interns on Duty (IOD) and is coordinated by the Director of Boarding (DOB) and the Deputy Director of Boarding (DDOB).

The PTIS International School exposes students to a variety of opportunities in a challenging and secure environment so that personal growth, self discipline and belief in self-worth is fostered.

Below is a charter drawn up about rights and responsibilities.


Student Rights

Each student has the right:

• To a secure and peaceful environment
• To have sporting, creative and outdoor opportunities
• To have a voice in how the school community operates
• To study in a challenging and supportive academic program
• To develop leadership skills in a positive environment
• To live free from harassment, bullying and victimization from others
• To have protection, care and tolerance from others

Student Responsibilities

All students are members of the school community and therefore while at school must:

• Treat other students with respect
• Avoid offensive language
• Be sensitive and respectful of the beliefs and customs of other
• Be honest in all matters
• Be inclusive and not exclusive in social groups and language use
• Help maintain a secure, pleasant and peaceful environment
• Participate in sporting, creative and outdoor programs to the best of their ability
• Develop leadership skills by taking initiatives in the academic, sporting, CAS and/or outdoor programs
• Participate in and support the school’s service program
• Respect themselves and their own future by avoiding any substance abuse, and not place other students at risk
• Study and develop their own potential to the best of their ability
• Be present at school and in all scheduled classes and activities for the duration of the school day
• Not participate in inappropriate sexual behaviour.

Consequences

Significant abuses of responsibility that are most likely to result in immediate suspension and/or expulsion are:

• 1. Frequent and/or premeditated and/or substantial theft or dishonesty
• 2. Frequent and/or substantial harassment in any form
• 3. Inappropriate sexual behaviour
• 4. Gratuitous violence
• 5. Possesion, redistribution or use of illegal drugs

Uniform

The school uniform will cost approx. 5,000 baht. The school has a well stocked uniform shop located at the front of the school.

Most school uniform items can be purchased directly from the shop on arrival at the school.

Students’ name labels will be sewn on their uniforms by Housekeeping staff, but all other clothing should be labelled when students arrive at school.

Stationary
On the first day of school students will be issued with a basic supply of folders and exercise books.

Additional folders etc can be purchased from the Supplies Store next to the Senior School office.

Bikes

Students are strongly encouraged to bring their bikes, or purchase one in Chiang Mai, for use in their spare time on the school campus.

There will also be occasions when they will be allowed to ride their bikes under supervision off campus.

Helmets are to be worn at all times when off campus. Students are encouraged to lock their bikes when they are not in use. These are kept in the pool undercroft area.

Computers

Laptops and desktop computers are very good educational learning tools and students are encouraged to bring them and to use them. Students will also have online access in the library.

• Students will be monitored in their use of computers on non-school related tasks
• Time to play computer games will be restricted
• Computer hacking is illegal and surfing inappropriate web sites is banned
• Students are not allowed to load any software onto school computers
• All students are expected to sign an IT Agreement on entry to the school
• All computers must have appropriate anti virus software installed. If this is not done, it will be installed at the school with the cost being billed to the student
• All computer hardware must be clearly engraved with the student’s name
• The school will take all reasonable care to look after them but it is recommended that you insure your child’s computer
• Student apartments have internet access and students will be issued with their own PTIS e-mail account

Orchid & Butterfly Farms

Major nurseries are located along Mae Rim - Samoeng route (Road No. 1096). These farms include Sai Nam Phung, Mountain Orchid, and Mae Ram Orchid. Each provide exotic year–round blooms. Certain orchid farms also have special butterfly enclosures where in exotic species can be seen in their natural environment.

Elephant Training Centres

Each morning, at Km. 10 on Mae Rim-Samoeng route, some 30 kilometers from town, trained elephants demonstrate their formidable and highly-valued forestry skills from 6.30 until 11.00 am, at the Mae Sa Elephant Training Center. A jungle tour on elephant back, lasting more than two hours through adjacent forests, is offered after the show. Elephants at work can also be seen at the Pong Yaeng Elephant Center at Km. 19 on the same route and the Elephant Nature Park Mae Taman on the Chiang Mai-Fang Road, some 57 kilometers from Chiang Mai.

Mae Sa Waterfall

This 8-tiered waterfall is 26 kilometers from town and occupies a natural setting among gigantic towering trees.

Resorts

Several picturesque resorts, with accommodation and dining facilities, offer bucolic rural living on the Mae Rim-Samoeng route and include Mae Sa Valley Resort and Erawan Resort, and the Samoeng-Hang Dong Route which includes Lanna Resort, Krisadadoi Resort and Suan Bua Resort. Some occupy hillsides, others secluded valleys.

Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden

The national botanic garden is located at Km. 12 of Mae Rim-Samoeng routed route and covers an area of 560 acres. It was established in April 1992 in order to gather, to conserve, as well as to strengthen studies and research on Thai plants. More than 700 species of plants with the emphasis on Thai Flora have been collected.

Taeng Dao Elephant Camp

This riverside enclave, at km. 56 on Highway 107. Caves are features daily shows of elephants at work, from 9.00 a.m. and offers elephant rides, ad opportunities for bucolic river-rafting through largely pristine and tranquil forests, or jungle treks to neighboring hill tribe settlements.

Chiang Dao Caves

Sacred Buddha images occupy the caves of Wat Tham Chiang Dao at KM. 72 on Highway 107. Caves are illuminated by electric lights. Deepest recesses can be explored with local guides.

Doi Ang Khang

This royal agricultural station found among beautiful mountainous scenery, provincial capital, 163 kilometers north of Chiang Mai, is a demonstration fruit trees, vegetables and other crops under the patronage of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Fang Hot Springs

Located at Ban Pin, also 163 kilometers north of Chiang Mai. Provincial capital, 50 hot springs occupy a 10-acre forest setting. Three boil continuously with a strong smell of sulphur. Water temperatures at the springs range from 90 to 100 degrees Celsius.

Bo Sang Umbrella/Parasol Village

The world-famous village is 9 kilometers from town, along a road lined with handicraft-producing factories. In genuine cottage industries, young women manufacture silk and cotton umbrellas and paper parasols which are subsequently hand painted in various animal and floral designs. Generations of Bo Sang families have been engaged in umbrella and parasol making for than 200 years.

San Kamphaeng Cotton & Silk Weaving Village

This equally famous village is located 13 kilometers from town. The village is the major source of all Thai silk and cotton produced in Chiang Mai. The fabrics are woven by local folk on traditional wooden looms, and are sold in a wide variety of plain lengths, plaids, brocades, stripes, prints and checks.

San Kamphaeng Hot springs

This is located 36 kilometers from town amid natural surroundings of trees and verdant hills. The water has a high sulphur content and possesses curative and restorative properties. Accommodation, a swimming pool, dining facilities and segregated mineral water bathing rooms are available. Nearby is Roong Arun Hot Spring Resort which offers bungalows, mineral baths and a sumptuous park setting.

Wat Suan Dok

Located on Suthep Road, this temple was built in a 14th century Lanna Thai monarch’s pleasure gardens and is a favorite spot for photographers, particularly for striking sunsets. The 500-year-old bronze Buddha image in a secondary chapel is one of Thailand’s largest metal images.

Wat Chiang Man

Located on Ratchapakkinai Road, this is Chiang Mai’s oldest temple and probably dates from 1296. The temple was the residence of King Mengrai, who founded Chiang Mai, and is noteworthy for a chedi supported by rows of elephantine buttresses, and a small ancient Buddha image, Phra Kaeo Khao.

Wat Chedi Luang

Located on Phraokklao Road, this temple is the site of an enormous pagoda, originally 280 feet high, and which was partially destroyed by an earthquake in 1545. At one time, Wat Chedi Luang housed the revered Emerald Buddha image which is now enshrined in Bangkok’s Wht Phra Kaeo. One of Wat Chedi Luang’s most striking architectural features is magnificent Naga staircase adorns the chapel’s front porch.

Wat Chet Yot

Located on the super highway, north of the Huai Kaeo Nimmanhemin Roads intersection, this temple dates from 1458. North India inspired the seven-spired square chedi over 2,500 years ago.

Wat U-Mong

Located on Suthep Road in a bucolic forest setting, this delightful meditation temple is completely different from Chiang Mai’s other major temples. It was built in 1296. The ancient chedi is of particular interest.

Wat Ku Tao

This temple is near the Chiang Mai Stadium. It is noteworthy for an unusual bulbous pagoda. The structure is decorated with colorful porcelain chips and is believed to represent five Buddhist monks' alms bowls which symbolize five Lord Buddhas.

Chiang Mai National Museum

This is located beside Wat Chet Yot. The museum houses a collection of Lanna Thai works of art, ancient Buddha images, and war weapons. It is open daily, except Mondays, Tuesdays and official holidays, from 9.00 a.m. until noon, and 1.00 until 4.00 p.m.

I like how the teachers and students at PTIS are so friendly. You can make friends easily. I can also do sports every day and the training is really good.
